Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies

These decadent Nutella-stuffed chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy and are sprinkled with sea salt.

  • 16 tablespoons Nutella, or other brand of chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1¼ cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
  • Sea salt

Step 1

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

Step 2

Using a tablespoon, scoop out 16 rounded tablespoons of Nutella onto the prepared baking sheet

Step 3

Freeze until solid (at least 2 hours, or overnight)

Step 4

Line another baking sheet with parchment paper

Step 5

Mix flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt together in a medium bowl; set aside

Step 6

In a large bowl, beat the butter until soft and slightly lightened in color, about 1 minute

Step 7

Add both sugars and beat together about 5 minutes

Step 8

Mix in the egg, egg yolk and vanilla until well-blended

Step 9

Slowly mix in the cocoa powder

Step 10

Add the flour mixture and mix until just combined, leaving a few streaks of flour behind. Do not over-mix.

Step 11

Stir in chocolate chips

Step 12

Using a ¼ cup measure ice cream scoop, scoop out the dough onto the lined baking sheet, forming 16 equal dough balls

Step 13

Make deep holes into the middle of each dough ball

Step 14

Get the Nutella scoops out of the freezer and working quickly, place them in the middle of each dough hole

Step 15

Gather the dough up over the Nutella scoops to completely cover them

Step 16

Roll the dough into balls and place on baking sheet

Step 17

Sprinkle the top of each dough ball with sea salt flakes

Step 18

Loosely cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 2 hours (can freeze up to 1 month)

Step 19

Bake cookies directly from frozen, until they flatten and the outer edges start to harden, 11-14 minutes (cookies shouldn't look shiny or sticky)

Step 20

Let cookies cool on baking sheet for at least 15 minutes before serviing

Step 21

Serve and enjoy!
